SCHERING-PLOUGH PRODUCT DISCONTINUED BY MANUFACTURER An inactivated vaccine containing two strains of swine influenza virus type A, subtype H1N1, and swine influenza virus type A, subtype H3N2, in a proprietary dual-acting adjuvant (Emunade). The product is indicated for use in healthy pigs 5 weeks of age or older as an aid in the prevention of disease associated with swine influenza virus subtypes H1N1 and H3N2. The vaccine has been demonstrated to reduce pneumonia and lung infection following challenge. DOSAGE/ADMINISTRATION: Shake well. Using aseptic technique, inject 2 mL intramuscularly into healthy pigs at 5 weeks of age or older. Revaccinate with 2 mL 2-3 weeks after initial vaccination. Pigs nursing non-immune dams can be safely and effectively vaccinated at weaning. Pigs from immune dams should be vaccinated when maternal antibody levels will allow active immunization. Duration of immunity to H3N2 has been demonstrated by challenge to be at least two months following vaccination. |
